From News Center (Text by Qin Weiyin and Tang Yuqin, International Exchange Department (Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs Office); Photo by the conference organizer) On the afternoon of July 28, the Mechanical Vocational Education Going Global with Industry: Conference of Cluster Cooperation on International Highly Skilled Talent Training was held in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province. At the meeting, the National Mechanical Vocational Education Steering Committee of China officially launched the Indonesia-China Vocational Education Enhancement Program (ICVEEP), marking the official replication and promotion of the standards-sharing pathway of “collaborative development by multiple institutions, national certification, and institutional breakthroughs” explored and developed by Liuzhou Polytechnic University (LZPU).
Building on the cooperation established during Phase I, ICVEEP Phase II will respond to the needs of Chinese-funded enterprises operating in Indonesia and further expand cooperation between vocational institutions in China and Indonesia in equipment manufacturing-related majors. The program will focus on two diploma-level majors—Industrial Robotics Technology and Mechanical Manufacturing and Automation—as well as their corresponding undergraduate-level majors. Following the established standards co-development process of “teacher training, major research, curriculum development, standards formulation, resource development, pilot implementation, and application and promotion,” the program will advance China-Indonesia dual-degree talent cultivation, meet the localization needs of Chinese-funded enterprises, and contribute to Indonesia’s industrial upgrading.
In the presence of Chinese and Indonesian guests, including Sun Yuanyuan, Deputy Director of the International Cooperation Department of the China Machinery Industry Federation; Gufron Amirullah Abdillah, Special Envoy of the Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology of Indonesia; Katiman, Senior Advisor to the Minister of Indonesia’s Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Cultural Affairs; Zheng Limei, Secretary-General of the National Mechanical Vocational Education Steering Committee of China and Director of the Machinery Industry Education Development Center; and Liu Zilin, Secretary of the CPC LZPU Committee, representatives of the Machinery Industry Education Development Center, the Director Forum of State Polytechnics Indonesia (FDPNI), and the Indonesian Vocational Higher Education Forum (FPTVI) jointly signed a memorandum of understanding and held a launch ceremony for the program.
Launched in September 2024, ICVEEP is a vocational education standards upgrading initiative led by LZPU and authorized by Indonesia’s national education authorities. During Phase I, the development of standards for two majors— Mechatronics and Mechatronic Engineering—as well as standards for 28 courses was completed, 17 textbooks were published in Indonesia and 11 online courses were developed. The program received dual certification from the National Mechanical Vocational Education Steering Committee of China and Indonesia’s Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Cultural Affairs. Implemented through China-Indonesia dual-degree cooperative education programs, it has been incorporated into Indonesia’s national education system.
The official launch of ICVEEP Phase II marks a solid step forward in the cluster-based international expansion of vocational education in the mechanical industry under the coordination and guidance of the National Mechanical Vocational Education Steering Committee of China. It is also an important milestone in LZPU’s efforts to lead the sharing of vocational education standards and resources. The further implementation of the program will deliver more practical outcomes in deepening China-Indonesia vocational education cooperation and supporting the high-quality global expansion of Chinese manufacturing.
