From News Center (Text by Li Chuang, School of Electronic Information Engineering; Photo by Shi Qi, School of Electronic Information Engineering) On August 3, 25 key teacher representatives from the Director Forum of State Polytechnics Indonesia (FDPNI), Indonesian Vocational Higher Education Forum (FPTVI), and the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Cultural Affairs of Indonesia (Kemenko PMK) gathered at the lecture hall of the School of Liuzhou Luosifen Industry, Liuzhou Polytechnic University (LZPU) for the opening ceremony of the AI Training and Certification Program for Indonesian Teachers, marking the official launch of the China-Indonesia AI General Education Course Joint Development Project.

On April 27, 2026, at the annual working meeting of the China-Indonesia TVET Industry-Education Alliance held in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, LZPU, representing the Chinese institutions of the Alliance, signed cooperation agreements with FDPNI and FPTVI, two higher vocational education organizations directly under Indonesia’s Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology. The agreements covered projects including the AI general education course, AI-related majors, and AI-empowered major upgrading. Under the overall coordination and guidance of the Department of Education of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, the AI General Education Course Joint Development Project was the first to be launched. LZPU was designated to take the lead in its implementation, working with Guangxi Polytechnic University, Guangxi Vocational College of Water Resources and Electric Power, Guangxi Technological College of Machinery and Electricity, and Guangxi Financial Vocational College to form a joint project team. Following the established pathway of “major research, teacher training, curriculum development, standards formulation, resource development, pilot implementation, and application and promotion,” the Project will promote the sharing of China’s vocational education AI general education course with Indonesia.

Since the Project was launched, the five participating institutions have joined forces with Chinese AI enterprises to establish a dedicated working team. The team has conducted on-site enterprise research, questionnaire surveys targeting the Indonesian government, teachers, students, and industries, as well as online research. These efforts have provided an accurate understanding of Indonesia’s AI policies and systems, industrial landscape, vocational education conditions, and the basic AI proficiency of teachers and students at vocational institutions, resulting in a number of specialized research reports. To ensure the high-quality advancement of the Project into its second phase, the project team, with reference to China’s vocational skills standards for AI and in conjunction with Indonesia’s national AI development strategy, jointly formulated the Certification Standards for Teachers of AI General Education Courses in Indonesia and the Certification Standards for AI Trainers in Indonesia. It also developed a comprehensive training resource package covering three major areas: core AI technologies, classroom teaching design, and AI ethics and security, and established a two-tier teacher certification system comprising “course instructors—seed trainers.” This training program for Indonesian teachers will use Chinese AI models and platforms, including Doubao, iFLYTEK Spark, and DeepSeek.

In his remarks at the opening ceremony, Qiu Fuming, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC LZPU Committee and Vice President of LZPU, emphasized that the Project should move away from a one-way model of curriculum export and uphold the principles of joint development, shared benefits, and local adaptation. Through joint teaching and research, the Project will cultivate local Indonesian teachers and strive to establish a model for the joint development of vocational AI general education courses that is adapted to local conditions in Indonesia and can be replicated and promoted across ASEAN.

The China-Indonesia AI General Education Course Joint Development Project represents China’s first exploration of comprehensively sharing vocational education standards in the field of AI with vocational institutions in a partner country. At an earlier demonstration meeting for the Certification Standards for Teachers of AI General Education Courses in Indonesia, Zhou Qian, Secretary-General of the Teaching and Research Professional Committee under the Ministry of Education’s Steering Committee for Information-Based Teaching in Vocational Colleges, noted that the Project could help promote the international expansion of China’s AI industry alongside vocational education, giving the Project both major significance and an important mission. The five participating institutions from Guangxi stated that they would live up to the trust placed in them by the education authorities of both countries, carry out the Project through sound planning and solid implementation, and ensure that the development of the courses and resources is completed on schedule.
